Consistently good pizza. This isn't a gourmet or fancy pizza place, but they have a solid selection of ingredients and it always hits the spot. I would suggest picking it up because their deliverers seem to get a little backlogged (probably because they get a bunch of orders and don't have many people taking them out). All in all, this is one of our favorite pizza joints in the area. They don't have a dine-in area, so plan on bringing it home.

Very greasy pizza, toppings fall off if you don't let pizza cool before eating. Go to barnabys

The science of pizza is an art. The balance of cheese and meat and sauce. How do you make it warm and cheesy and good but not make you feel like you just ate a big mouth of oil and sauce? This place gets it perfectly right! Not greasy or fatty with a good thin crust, just the right amount of toppings, and lots of great cheese. Better than your average dominos or papa johns. I think they truly take pride in their work. Staff was pretty helpful but nothing stellar. And like other reviews said there's no place to sit. This is why they can't get 5 stars from me. If they paint and clean up put some tables and chairs and a menu with some specialty pizzas, they'd be beyond ready for business. If all you care about is a good pie though definitely a place to go

I had a friend tell me that their food was not very good, that the service was very very poor. When they receive their food ($40 dollar order) it was nothing but cold, they called back to inform them that their food was cold and they'd like to have something done about it but they just said "your order was there on time" So I picked up one of their fliers that says "delivery to South Bend Mishawaka in Granger open seven days a week lunch and dinner delivery lunch hours Monday through Friday 11 AM to 2 PM evening hours 5 PM to 2 AM Sunday through Wednesday 5 PM to 4 AM Thursday Friday and Saturday and what I received was a message that said I'm sorry were not open right now. I have personally but with the manager/owner of the place and he says oh we have the best hours the best food well I'm not going to order from them now

While the sign hasn't changed from "The State Catering" and there's no furniture and nothing in the coolers this place makes the best pizza in this city. The best pizza hands down. $17 for a 18 inch two topping pizza????? Yep! Why? First, the crust is amazing. Flavorful, thin, and near perfect. The toppings are ok. They don't drown the pizza. If you like a ton of cheese and meat you'll find this pizza might require a double order of cheese or meat... But the crust can't hold fatty portions so don't be a fatty. I picked up my pizza in 30 min. Delivery can take a while I hear but I just drive over. I suggest you get off the sofa and go pick it up or put grandma in her mobility chair and send her to get it rather than wait an hour or more. Thanks to the sweet girl who helped get me my pizza. While my friends joked that this place might have goofy workers or kids and that they were written up at the old location - even then people told me the pizza was good. Credit cards OK. A few spots right out front to park. Again... No dine in here at all. This place is odd to be sure... But they make amazing top flight pizza.

Food was great when I was taken there. Would like to see some photos on here of the food in life size per portion. A picture goes a long way when you're looking for something to eat.

Love their pizza but HATE the immature help. I was asked to hold but unfortunately I could hear three employees goofing off and swearing up a storm while "on hold". I hung up after 4 minutes of listening to the nonsense. Please keep up the quality but make the employees aware of customer perception.

This place took over two hours to deliver my food. WTF!? Not only was this establishment and the staff rude, but, i was delivered pizza that was absolutely the worst pizza that i have ever tasted. this was so terrible that i needed to order dominos pizza instead to get the awful pizza taste out of my mouth. DO NOT GO HERE.

A few months ago, I was passing through town and the hotel kitchen was closed. While I was waiting for pizza, a drunk black kid rushed up to me and sat in my lap before I had time to respond. When I yelped, pushed him away, and demanded that he not touch me, he called me a racist and kept approaching me. When I complained to the guy behind the counter, he apologized to me on the kid's behalf, but STILL SOLD HIM PIZZA! Then the drunk black kid ran away. When I called the local cops to station more people by the pizzeria, they said they would, but sent no one. When I went to the police station to report this incident, they looked at me like I was crazy. Um... Dear South Bend, Indiana, the American Midwest, drunk men everywhere, and the World at Large, women who officially demand that drunk men (whatever color) stop molesting and harassing them are neither racist nor overly sensitive; they are just sober, and deserving of protection. p.s. yes, the pizza was gross but it's pretty much your only option after the hotel kitchens close.

I am so torn here.....I love Vesuvio's pizza, and yes their pizza is amazing...i can not call it "the best in South Bend," since Rocco's is by far the best. Regardless, this place has started a scam that everyone should just be weary of dealing with these guys, they tend to be crooks when they are able to. Here is my experience: I had just gotten engaged, to my ND college sweetheart, and we went to the usual bars (CJs & Finnie's...relatively early too, compared to going in the college years) and we decided to get a pie for the house we rented and for the other friends to share when we all got back. So Vesuvios's could have been swamped, or just been having a bad day...but they STOLE MY MONEY. I gave them the cash for a large pepperoni pie, they take it behind the wall (because the register is not in the front...pretty sure they are breaking a rule by doing that) and i never saw it again, nor did i get a receipt, sand of course i never get my pizza. My fiance and I waited for easily an hour, then just asked if the girl who took our order (and who like other posters mentioned, wanted to "slit her wrists") said, "you already got your pizza." We were getting pretty upset at this point, but they insisted they had given us our pizza....i asked the girl to smell my breath as it would smell like garlic and pizza if i had eaten any, and told her we had been sitting there the entire time waiting....she started to curse and yell at us as though we were trying to steal...furthering my anger. So i walked to the back section near the kitchen where i guess, "Mr. Vesuvio" or the mixed biracial guy and another girl who neither were wearing gloves, or hair nets, and there was a mess in the back, from wet towels near cheese/pepperonis to a bucket of old mop-water right in the middle of all the action! WTF PEOPLE IS THERE NO HEALTH CODE IN SB!?! I can get past the mess, the unclean workers and environment, mainly because their thin-NY style pizza is great but i honestly may never eat anywhere but Rocco's again, these guys stole my money, made me look like an asshole in front of my new fiance, and then the "Mr. Vesivio" character mentioned earlier walked right past me and said we got you bro. So thinking ill wait a few more minutes, we wait about a half hour longer...nothing. I walk back a second time, to be chased out by him and his two depressed/suicidal workers, saying we gave you pizza and continued to scream that until i was so furious i was either going to just start trying to swing at people or leave, so luckily with my fiance to calm me down, we just left. I want everyone to know these guys follow no rules, no health codes, no respect for customers. They act as if they are the best thing since the pizza was invented, and yes their pizza is great but it costs them $5 or less to make a pie and they sell it for $20 - but they also look for opportunities to steal money as i saw/heard in my near 2-hour wait, many kids were trying to get pizza and would pay up only never to receive pizza. I hope they get what is coming to them. I will be notifying he health code department and IRS too since i could bet these guys dont follow any of the rules.

This is the best pizza in South Bend, and it's not even close. Complain about the service all you want, the quality of the food outweighs everything. It is head and shoulders above other pizza places in the area.

I LOVEEEEEEEE THIS PIZZA! Seriously, it's delicious! Thin, New York style pizza made with a buttery garlic herb brushing of oil on the crust! So good! I don't even care that this place has had health code violations because it just reopened and I went a few nights ago to get a couple of slices! Also, an actual whole pizza is only about $12 and it is massive! Love it! Everyone must try it!

Best pizza in town. Thin crust, right amount of grease (don't get this pizza if you are the type to dab oil off of your pie, you are a wuss). Love the crust brushed with garlic butter. I always pick up, never delivered, because I have heard that delivery can be sketchy. Frankly, it's worth the drive.

My experience with Vesuvios was terrible. Greasy, cardboard pizza served from a health code violation ridden building. However, I think that it may be a love-hate pizza preference, as I have friends that swore by the place... be your own judge. My suggestion is to steer clear - and luckily ALL will have to avoid the place for awhile, as it was recently closed again for violating health codes.

Best pizza ever!! I will never let a chain have my money again. For less than what I would pay at the hut my pizza was larger and had more character hands down! Plus it's a family owned business so I feel like I'm helping a local small business 2 perfect pizzas at a time! God bless America and god bless Vesuvios! Okay I may have gotten carried away but I did have a couple beers with my pizza :o)

I've only come to Vesuvios after nights of partying next door at Finny's, so this review could be useless if you're planning on coming during the day. Then again I always just figured this place doubled as a laundromat during the day (you'll see what I mean if you go in there) and only served pizza from like 1-4 AM on the weekends to cater to the student crowd - so coming sober might not even be an option. Anyway, forget water; this stuff is the best hangover-avoiding-medicine you can imagine. I once ate a whole pizza on the five minute cab ride back from the bars to campus. I felt terrible the next day, but that's because I just ate an entire pizza, not because I was hung over. Also, who knows - if you strike out at the bar, you can give yourself a second chance to meet that special someone by bringing some pizza out to the cab line. Actually, that's probably your best shot.

Gets better every time I order from here. They've really got the crust down. One gripe... why don't they brush the crust with real butter instead of that oleo junk? Also, why are there no chairs in the place? Doesn't matter when you've been out.

Very good New York style pizza with a garlic crust that is quite good. Amazing for late night eat in or delivery as i'm fairly certain they deliver later than anyone.

I'm in love with Vesuv's pizza. Sometimes I dream of being back at college in South Bend and running to Vesuv's for two single slices of the best pizza I've ever had. "Any toppings?" the grimy guy with a ponytail would ask me. "Tomatoes, please," I'd say and then he'd hand to me two gigantic New-York style slices, each filling an entire paper plate as a pound or so of mozzarella oozes of the edges. Yeah, it's just that awesome. Okay, so the place is kind of a dump and there are bullet holes in the window and blood stains on the carpet and if you're going to dine in, you probably have to sit on a chair without a seat or a cardboard box. BUT THE PIZZA IS WAAAAY TOO GOOD TO PASS UP! Sorry for yelling, but it's true. If the place scares you, then order take-out or delivery. Or just go to the one in Elkhart, but for chrissakes, try the damn pizza.
